JOSH LEYS loves to get hands-on in all aspects of his music. Unsurprisingly he's drawing a lot attention on TV and radio around New Zealand for his knack for writing a great hook and catchy chorus – as you can hear in his single single "Don't You Know". The accompanying music video was made by the talented Lense Flare group.
With Just a laptop and a Microphone Josh wrote, produced and played on his self-titled EP which features his debut Netherlands released single “Stuck In The Middle”. Josh Has a musical vision like no other combining soul, hip-hop and pop and dance to create a whole new sound.
On top of the self-penned singles and videos, Josh is a Hip-hop producer, has beatboxed at Big Day Out for three years running, has appeared in international films, American TV series, and adverts, and yet somehow he's still an approachable and lovable dude.
From his homebase in Onehunga, Auckland, Josh writes from feeling - sometimes it's a happy groove-based jam into looping pedal, sometimes it's a guitar and a frustrated search for inspiration at 3am. "Hiphop is a big influence for me. Songwriting, singing, beatboxing - a lot of what I do is inspired by hiphop or hinges off that. Like the drum sound in Don't You Know, or adding a Kanye Dry syth over an acoustic guitar rhythm and hip hop beat. we can expect to hear more music and see more of the Josh Leys live show: "I love being in the studio and of course the acting thing is fun, but for me performing is my biggest passion. I've had such a great time recently - the shows I've played have been really inspiring for me. Keep an eye out for Josh Leys, new show heading to a town near you!
